This book is an attempt to quantify, simplify, and enable those other components—yes, even luck. The book is a result of my belief that a team can increase their odds of success on all fronts through thoughtful and reflective application of Microsoft Solutions Framework (MSF).
This book describes and explains the Microsoft Solutions Framework (MSF)—a collection of key concepts, foundational principles, and proven practices from Microsoft and from dedicated and passionate practitioners around the world. They are an amazing bunch, continually looking to improve and streamline how teams deliver solutions. It is an honor to write this book on their behalf.
This book was written for any team or organization, technical or nontechnical, that is looking for some commonsense guidance on how to deliver solutions successfully. This book is not for a particular role on a team; it is meant to stimulate thinking of all team members. Hopefully, the team will come away with a common taxonomy and common understanding of the foundational elements needed to have a successful team, project, and solution.
