Creating and viewing an assessment

In this section, we are going to create an assessment in the Azure portal. To do so, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Azure Migrate project that we created earlier and under Manage, select Discovered items again. 
  2. From the top menu, select Create assessment.
  1. Add the following values:
    1. Discovery source: Leave the default value as it is, which is Machines discovered from Azure Migrate appliance.
    2. Assessment name: PacktAssessment1.
    3. Select or create a group: Create a new one and call it PacktVMGroup.
    4. Appliance name: Leave the default as it is.
    5. Select the VMs that you want to add to the assessment:

  1. Click Create assessment.
  2. It will take some time before the assessment is ready.
  3. Once the assessment has been created, you can view it by going to Servers | Azure Migrate: Server Assessment | Assessments:

Reviewing the assessment
  1. Select the assessment from the list. You will get an overview of the assessed machines, as shown in the following screenshot:

  1. Click on Export assessment from the top menu to download the assessment as an Excel file.

In this section, we created and viewed an assessment. In the upcoming sections, we are going to migrate the VMs to Azure. We will start by preparing the Hyper-V host server.
