Do you want to allow more emotions in your text? A picture is worth a thousand words. An emoticon is probably worth less than that, but it's certainly more fun (smile).
Once the files are in place, you will need to enable this filter at Site Administration | Modules | Filters | Manage filters:
Click on the eye icon in the row named Skypeicons so that it appears as an open eye. It will then be possible to add Skype icons around your site.
Skype icons are added by using appropriate code strings enclosed in parentheses. Emoticons can be added anywhere you can add text content. This includes labels, web pages, forum posts, assignment descriptions, and so on.
Possible emoticon tags are: (angel) (angry) (bandit) (beer) (bigsmile) (blush) (bow) (brokenheart) (cake) (call) (cash) (clapping) (coffee) (cool) (crying) (dance) (devil) (doh) (drink) (drunk) (dull) (envy) (evilgrin) (flower) (giggle) (handshake) (headbang) (heart) (hi) (hug) (inlove) (itwasntme) (kiss) (lipssealed) (mail) (makeup) (middlefinger) (mmm) (mooning) (movie) (muscle) (music) (nerd) (ninja) (no) (party) (phone) (pizza) (puke) (rain) (rock) (sadsmile) (skype) (sleepy) (smile) (smoke) (speechless) (star) (sun) (surprised) (sweating) (talking) (thinking) (time) (toivo) (tongueout) (wait) (wink) (wondering) (worried) (yawn) (yes)
The icons appear rendered as animated emoticons. They are cute and colorful, but beware, some are a little rude (notably, these rude icons are not shown on the Modules and plugins entry for the Skype icons filter):
Moving the mouse over each emoticon shows the code used to add it to the text.
One must wonder if there is anything of educational value in emoticons, but perhaps there may be. Emoticons have emerged as another form of txt spk (text speak) that is worth study within the fields of language expression and popular culture.
If you feel that some of the emoticons may cause offense or may be inappropriate for students at your institution, you can selectively remove particular emoticons by editing the filter file /moodle/filter/skypeicons/filter.php
.
At line 22 you will find an array declared with a string value for each emoticon. Remove the strings for the emoticons you wish to banish.
$images = array('angel', 'angry', 'bandit', 'beer', ...
