This menu’s commands govern what view mode the windows are in, what toolbars are shown, and so on.
Switches among Word’s various document views; see The Views for descriptions.
Hides or shows these palettes, which work the same in Excel, PowerPoint, and Word—except for the Citations palette (Different headers (and footers) for different sections) which is found only in Word.
Opens the “Customize Toolbars and Menus” window, where you can turn on or off even more Word toolbars or create your own (see Customizing Your Toolbars).
Opens and closes the Navigation Pane (The Document Map).
Hides or shows the ruler in the currently active document (see The Ruler).
Switches the currently active Word document to “Header and Footer” mode (and shows the “Header and Footer” toolbar), where you can enter headers or footers that will show up at the top or bottom of every page (see Headers and Footers).
Shows footnotes, which also makes them available for editing (see Footnotes and Endnotes).
Hides or shows the Reveal Formatting mode, which pops up a balloon with all kinds of details about the formatting where you click.
