SUMMARY OF THE TECHNOLOGY

Among the professionals currently working in performance improvement, many began by providing services at the Worker or Individual level in their organizations. At this level, performance consultants might work with all the employees in a particular job category, such as all the sales clerks in the women’s shoe department. We might also be helping a work group or team, such as the disaster recovery department, that has a range of different specialists working together. Or we could be consulting to a manager or supervisor about the performance of one or two employees in her work group.
Often, the concern that brings the performance consultant in, such as, “These people need to communicate better,” is only one aspect of the real issue or may be a symptom of an entirely different matter. Our job then becomes one of investigating the situation to find out what is really happening.
