SOLUTIONS: TYPICAL EXAMPLES AT THE INDIVIDUAL LEVEL

Once an issue has been diagnosed, it is time to identify appropriate solutions. When working at the Worker or Individual level, it is tempting to suggest training as a solution. After all, if someone is not performing to standard, it must be because the person doesn’t know how. While indeed, the performer may require specific skills due to a lack of experience, as we have seen, there are many reasons why someone’s work may need to improve. It is therefore more likely that we would recommend a “basket” of solutions that includes a training component. Typical solutions for the Worker level are:
• Setting expectations
• Feedback systems
• Rewards and consequences
• Job aids
• Electronic performance support systems
• Coaching and mentoring
• Information and communication systems
• Clinics and workshops
• On-the-job experiences
