CONCLUSION

We use detectives and architects throughout this book to relate the investigative aspects of those roles to the analysis work that performance improvement folks do. The tools discussed in this chapter can be employed by both roles. In our detective role, they help us find clues, and show us what is working, what is not working, and the bottlenecks, delays, and unnecessary steps in a process. As architects, they provide blueprints for building total performance systems. When designing a total performance system, both processes and practices become important. The added value for the performance improvement specialist is the integration of the various performance groups in the enterprise to point them toward one over-arching goal: the improvement of the Total Performance System.
