CONCLUSION

The Organization Level is the highest of three levels in an organizational performance system. It is the most challenging for a performance consultant to address, and it is also offers the greatest leverage. This is our best chance to raise our efforts from an episodic approach to a true systemic approach to solving a performance issue. Not many performance consultants are yet asked to help organizations at this level, and our literature is not yet full of cases, tools, and solutions. We have to keep a sharp eye out for opportunities and hone our political skills to pursue them. Our best tools for working at this level are good questions, careful listening, and persistence. Many issues that show up as Worker Level performance problems are actually due to poor alignment of goals and initiatives at the Organization Level. If you can help leaders see what better alignment can do for their organization, you can really start making a difference. In Chapter 6, What We Do, we explore the HPT consulting process.
