With the back piece right side up, stack the two
pieces of ribbon and lay them diagonally across the
rectangular area. Pin and stitch along the edges.

Apply fusible web to the backside of a piece of bat-
ting. Using a stencil, write the words “PAR AVION”
backward on the paper backing. Cut out, and apply
to the ribbon.

Tablet Pieces to Measure and Cut
Trace your tablet on a piece of paper.
Add

inch (2 cm) to all sides of the rectangle for ease and a

-inch (1.25 cm)
seam allowance. This creates the front pattern piece.
Repeat tracing steps 1 and 2, measuring out 3 inches (7.5 cm) from the center of
the line on the left side. Mark a point, and draw angled lines to each corner of the
rectangle to create the flap extension. This creates the back pattern piece.
Cut three layers for each piece—one of main fabric, one of lining fabric, and one or
two of batting (depending on the thickness you want). If you’re using felt instead
of quilt batting, cut two layers and stack them together.
Trim
1
2
inch (1.25 cm) off the top edge (one long side) of the batting piece for
the front.

Place the batting on the backside of the front piece.
Trim the edge if necessary so the fabric extends

inch (1.25 cm) on one of the longer sides. Pin.
6
Mark three wavy rows of stamp cancellation lines
with an air-soluble pen, and stitch on top of those
lines.
Place the top layer on top of the batting. Pin
around the edges.

cut a small piece of fabric for the top layer. Pin and
topstitch around the edges.

Grade the seam allowances by trimming the fabric
and batting from the top front layers close to the
seam. Clip the corners of the remaining fabric.
8
With the right sides together, lay the front piece on
top of the back piece with the sides and bottom
edge lined up. Straight stitch around the three edges.

235Intermediate Projects
Fold the flap over, and pin the fabric to the batting.
Notice the batting extends a bit; trim off the excess
batting, and set aside.
9
With the right sides together, sew the two lining
pieces together. Fold the top edge of the front
piece over

inch (1.25 cm), and stitch around the
three sides.

Turn the main fabric pocket right side out. Slide
the lining pocket inside the main fabric.
With the two flaps right sides together, place the
lining on top of the main fabric. Pin around the
edges of the flap, and stitch.
Trim the seam allowance, and turn the flap right
side out. Push the corners to nice, crisp points.
The pockets should still be inside out.
