Small scrap piece cotton fabric in one color (for

5×5-inch (12.75×12.75 cm) piece fusible non-

Straight pins
Ruler or measuring tape
Pinking shears

I’m sure we all agree tissues are great to
have on hand, but they look a bit boring
wrapped in clear plastic. Why not dress
them up with a festive fabric cover?
These covers are designed to fit the
standard-size pocket packs of tissues and
are made using small pieces of cotton
fabric. The pieces are designed so that
you can use a contrasting fabric for half
of the top or just one fabric for the whole
thing—the choice is up to you!

Lay one of each top layer and base layer piece
wrong side up. Place the interfacing on each
piece, centered, with the textured fusible side
down. Press to bond the interfacing to the fabric.
With the right sides together, place the top layer
on the base layer and line up the side seam. Pin
and stitch. Repeat with the other top and base
pieces.
The
5
8
-inch (1.5 cm) seam allowance should line
up just to the inside of the interfacing on the top
piece. The other pieces are stitched but don’t
have interfacing.

seam allowance.

Turn the tissue cover right side out. Press so the
edges are crisp and straight.
Straight stitch along both the top and bottom
edges, removing the pins as you sew.
Place the two pieces on top of each other with
the right sides together. Pin along the top and
bottom edges. Line up the seam where the two
fabrics meet.
Trim the seam and press the seam open flat on
both pieces.

Fold the finished ends in so they meet in the
middle. Set a tissue pack in to check the fit, and
pin the sides.
Remove the tissue pack, and sew a straight seam
down each side. Overlap the edges about
1

inch
(.6 cm) when sewing. Trim the seam, and finish
with a zigzag stitch on both sides.
Turn the cover right side out, and push the cor-
ners out to a point. Take the tissues out of the
plastic wrapper, and place them inside the fabric
holder.
