Installing and configuring OVS

We have already shown how to set up and configure an ODL node. Let's now proceed to set up an Open vSwitch node. The following steps assume that the Open vSwitch node is running Ubuntu server edition 15.10 or higher.

  1. Install Open vSwitch packages on the Open vSwitch node as follows:

    Installing and configuring OVS

  2. Add an OVS bridge called br-test and add two interfaces as per the topology diagram. Depending on your server, you will have to choose the appropriate network interfaces:

  3. Since these interfaces are bound to an OVS bridge, these should not have any IP addresses assigned to it. Edit the /etc/network/interfaces file and ensure that the following entries are added:

  4. Finally, bring up the two interfaces as follows:

  5. At this stage, the OVS is configured to forward traffic between enp0s8 and enp0s9. If end hosts Host 1 and Host 2 are now connected to these interface, data path traffic will flow via the Open vSwitch (br-test).
