TIME: 30 MINUTES, PLUS 30 MINUTES TO SET
MAKES: 48 MINI GUMMY BEARS
SERVES: 4–6
These gummies offer sweet little hug when you need one. Blood orange juice gives them a deep red color, but any freshly squeezed juice can be used. Use a bear-shaped silicone candy mold for a traditional gummy bear shape.
1 cup (240ml) freshly squeezed blood orange juice or other freshly squeezed juice
4 tsp (26g) sugar
5 tbsp (37g) agar agar
4–6 servings of CBD oil, but no more than 1⁄2 tsp (2.5ml) total
1. In a small saucepan, bring the juice to a boil over medium heat, and cook until it reduces to about 2⁄3 cup (160ml). Add the sugar, stir to dissolve, and remove from the heat.
2. To speed cooling, pour the juice into a bowl and refrigerate until it reaches room temperature, about 20 minutes.
3. Remove the cooled juice from the refrigerator, pour it back into the saucepan, and add the agar agar a little bit at a time, stirring after each addition until it is fully dissolved.
4. Return the saucepan to the stove over medium-low heat. Add the CBD oil and stir continuously until the juice thickens to a syruplike consistency, nearly as thick as honey. Remove from the stove.
5. Working quickly, spoon the gummy mixture into the mold, or use a kitchen syringe to draw it up and inject it into the mold. Refrigerate for 30 minutes.
6. Remove from the refrigerator and pop the gummies from the mold into an airtight storage container. Store in the refrigerator and consume within 2 weeks.
