The Least You Need to Know
◆ Basic copyright protection is free. Just put a copyright notice on your work.
◆ U.S. copyrights last for the life of the author plus 70 years. No one else can profit from or copy your ideas without your permission during this time frame.
◆ If you want to file a formal registration for greater protection, you don’t need a lawyer. It’s a simple process though the Library of Congress Copyright Office.
◆ To file for a basic claim costs $35 if done online. All the forms you need are on the Library of Congress’s website.
