Blank hardbound or wirebound sketchbooks are inexpensive and versatile. It’s easy to modify them by painting backgrounds and removing or adding pages. Best of all, you have a blank slate where you can start working immediately; no advance preparation is necessary. If you have trouble starting projects or get hung up searching for the perfect book to work in, start with a plain blank book.

You can recycle an existing book into your visual journal or make your own journal book. Just be aware of time spent crafting the perfect journal at the expense of working in it.
