This smoothie is my response to some of my athletes who have an affinity for sweeter fruit drinks. Combining tropical fruits into a smoothie might make you feel like you’re on an island (minus the rum), but this is a great way to add carbs, vitamins, and antioxidants to your diet.

ISLAND FRUIT SMOOTHIE

Makes: 2 servings

Serving size: 1 smoothie

Prep time: 5 minutes

Cook time: none

 

INGREDIENTS

1 orange, peeled and quartered

1 ripe banana, peeled and sliced

1 cup coconut water

1 cup frozen mango chunks

1 cup frozen pineapple chunks

DIRECTIONS

1 In a blender on high speed, blend all the ingredients and as many ice cubes as desired until smooth.

2 Pour the mixture into 2 chilled glasses and serve immediately.

CHANGE IT UP

You can replace the coconut water with fruit juice—but be mindful of changes to the nutritional information.
