2. Ideally, investors should use a transition manager when the expected cost of not using a transition manager is greater than the transition management fees. This is usually the case for significant portfolio restructurings, situations in which the investor is concerned about obtaining superior execution quality and/or maintaining a given market exposure, particularly complex transitions (e.g., portfolios containing significant exotic or odd-lot securities), and highly volatile environments.
