Understanding the Changing Role of Supervision

A bewildered manager recently said in one of our seminars, “I just don’t get it…what’s going on with today’s employees? What is it they want?” Seasoned managers, those with 20 to 30 years of experience, unanimously agree on one issue: the role of the 21st century manager and the skills required to get the job done today are significantly different from the role of the supervisor/manager of the 1940s and 1950s. This initial chapter briefly reviews some of the reasons that contribute to this changing role.
