1. Karon Viewpoint

With breathtaking views of Kata Noi, Kata, and Karon beaches, this famous viewpoint in the rolling hills of southwestern Phuket is a great stopover for travelers headed south to Naiharn Beach or Phromthep Cape. Called khao saam haad in Thai (literally, hill of three beaches), Karon Viewpoint has well-tended gardens and a sheltered viewing pavilion.

2. Phromthep Cape

At sundown, all eyes face west from this magnificent perch on Phuket’s southernmost tip (for further details see Phromthep Cape). Romantic and awe-inspiring, the multi-colored sunsets here attract visitors from all over Phuket. Kaew Yai Island can be seen off the coast, and you can see as far as Ko Phi Phi from the Phromthep Cape lighthouse. The atmospheric Phromthep Restaurant overlooks Naiharn Beach.

3. Windmill Viewpoint

This energy station atop Phuket’s southern hills overlooks Naiharn Beach and provides an opportunity to capture magnificent panoramic photographs of the entire length of white sand. Home to the Phromthep Alternative Energy Station, Windmill Viewpoint is less crowded than Phromthep Cape, and both sights can easily be visited on the same day.

4. Big Buddha Viewpoint

With sweeping 360-degree views of Phuket, this religious site, home to a massive cross-legged Buddha image, is located 1,312 ft (400 m) above sea level. Tinkling bells line the pathway leading to the marble Buddha statue. Dress conservatively to respect the Buddha’s spiritual significance. The restaurant here provides fantastic views.prac_infoOpen 8am–7:30pm daily

5. Khao Khad Views Tower

This hilltop tower in Cape Panwa has picturesque views of southern Phuket, including the Big Buddha statue atop a distant hill. Also known as Panwa Viewpoint, Khao Khad Views Tower has two levels. Visitors are provided with photo maps describing the various sights in the distance.

6. Rang Hill

A popular hangout for local students, romantic couples, and others, this peaceful hilltop oasis above Phuket Town offers refreshing breezes and plenty of greenery, providing an ideal setting for anyone who wants to exercise, enjoy a picnic, or read a book. Leafy trees provide lots of shade, while the two restaurants provide marvelous views of Phuket Town (for further details see Rang Hill).

7. Monkey Hill

Visitors will not be surprised, given this hill’s name, when they encounter macaque monkeys on the way up this hill. A television station prevents climbers from reaching the hill’s actual summit, but one will find many worthwhile views of the ocean and city through the trees on the hillside (for further details see Monkey Hill).

8. Radar Hill Viewpoint

Some 1,640 ft (500 m) above sea level, the tallest point on Phuket is home to a weather station whose domed roof can be clearly seen from the beaches below. Steep roads wind up toward the summit but stop just short of the entrance to the military-controlled buildings. The drive affords several staggering views of Phuket.

9. Phi Phi Viewpoint

A delightful destination for watching the sunrise or sunset, this viewpoint on Ko Phi Phi Don requires a 30-minute stroll. At a height of 610 ft (186 m), it isn’t the top of the world, but the views of Tonsai and Loh Dalum bays, and of Ko Phi Phi Ley, are breathtaking. Signs pointing the way can be found in Loh Dalum Bay.

10. Helicopter Charters

For the most thrilling views of the island, and stunning photo opportunities, helicopter tours offer a breathtaking way to see Phuket from above. A number of private flight companies offer chartered sky tours over Phuket’s brilliant white-sand beaches, emerald waters, and mangrove coasts, as well as Phang Nga’s majestic limestone cliffs. A 10-minute flight costs around B5,000.prac_infoAdm • www.skydance.aero
