Marcus Buckingham is an advocate of the “strengths revolution.” In his books, Now, Discover Your Strengths and Go Put Your Strengths to Work and The Truth About You, Buckingham tackles questions such as, “What would happen if 75 percent of the day, you were using your strongest skills and engaged in your favorite tasks, doing exactly what you wanted to do?”

Step 1 of this book addressed a similar theme. Worksheets were designed to uncover your skills, abilities, and hidden talents, and to encourage you to think about “the best you, the person you want to be.” The take-away message in 10 Steps to Successful Customer Service is to use your strengths and talents in your present job as well as keeping an eye to the future. With some thought and reflection, you can enjoy the position you hold. The Law of Attraction says that if you see the positive, you will get more positive.

In addition, putting your enhanced skills into practice may result in a promotion, what often occurs when heightened awareness and new behaviors are noticed. That would be terrific! And, as a part of the strengths revolution, you will be more aware of the strengths of others, and more prepared to coach and bring out their best. Alternatively, you may choose to move on to a different position, or to start your own business. Your enhanced skills will serve you no matter where you decide to offer your strengths.

In the YouTube video cited previously, Marcus Buckingham makes this comment: “Work can be a great place where you can be challenged and you can make the kind of difference that only you can make.”

This is true. You are unique. You can make a distinctive difference.
