About the Author

Kimberly Devlin is both president of Poetic License, Inc., a business communication consulting firm, and managing director of EdTrek, Inc., a training and development consulting firm that caters to the unique needs of the public sector. She has been an independent consultant for more than 18 years helping client agencies realize business objectives through strategic planning, organization-wide training implementations, service standard creation, train-the-trainer certifications, and other initiatives. She has presented at international and industry-specific conferences, including ATD’s International Conference & Expo, ATD’s Chapter Leader’s Conference, the Office Connection Conference for school district administrative personnel, the Florida Association of Court Clerks’ Conference, Florida Gulf Coast University’s Developing World Class Employees, the Florida Association of City Clerks’ Conference, SUNCOAST League of Cities’ Conference, the Florida Association of Code Enforcement Conference, and others. Kimberly has also been featured in TD magazine for her status as a Certified Professional in Learning and Performance (CPLP) pilot pioneer.

With a MA in journalism and a BA in English literature from the University of Miami, and her CPLP credential, Kimberly leverages her communication specialist skills and industry-leading training and development qualifications to create highly effective, sought-after learning events. Topics include competency-based designs for leadership at all levels of public sector agencies, effectiveness in business writing, proprietary software and business process training, and others. She also leads world-class learning events for ATD Education. Among her most professionally rewarding projects are developing the skills of other industry professionals through online and instructor-led facilitation of ATD’s Training Certificate Program, Master Instructional Designer Certificate Program, and Designing Learning Certificate Program, as well as EdTrek’s train-the-trainer certification programs for hand-selected public sector staff. She has recently revised the curriculum for one of ATD’s certificate programs and worked closely with ATD and HumRRO staff on CPLP-related projects.

As a writer, instructional designer, facilitator, and consultant, she has provided technical assistance nationally and internationally to organizations as diverse as Lucent Technologies, Avaya, U.S. Marine Corps, Social Security Administration, U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, ATD–CI, HumRRO, Broward College, Akron Children’s Hospital, multiple school districts, Grady Health System and Fulton County in a public/private partnership, defense contractors, as well as city, county, and state agencies across the country. The organizations she serves work in a wide range of fields, including healthcare, pharmaceuticals, insurance, higher education, manufacturing, telecommunications, aviation, and others.

A long-time ATD volunteer, she served on her chapter’s board as vice president of professional development from 2007 to 2010, during which time the chapter received national recognition and awards, and has been a volunteer in multiple capacities for ATD–CI since 2007. She is a graduate of Leadership Broward XXIV, where she served as community project chair, and is a former board member of the Association of Women in Communications. Kimberly was the recipient of Avaya Communication’s E-Learning Excellence Award for the Caribbean and Latin America Region in 2000.
