Application-Level Errors

Unexpected application-level errors occur when an expected result does not occur, such as when incorrect data are detected, correct data are not found, a window or object is not found, or a major property has changed. Errors also happen when an unexpected result transpires such as the detection of an nexpected Active Window, especially if it is an error display window. If you are a Rational user, a test verification point failure of any kind represents this type of error. These types of errors are deemed test failures.

A critical test script error occurs when

  • The input file cannot be opened or read.

  • Coded access to a database fails.

  • A script command failure or runtime error occurs, usually a coding problem.

Critical errors are generally environment/programming errors and do not constitute a test failure.
