Automated Build Smoke Test Checklist

The following list describes the kind of information that the build notes should contain and can be used to verify that the information is present and correct.

  • Does the build include the build notes?

  • Do the build notes include a list of the features new to this build?

  • Do the build notes include any special considerations that must be addressed before, during, or after installation?

  • Do the build notes identify all of the defects that have been repaired in this build?

    • Are the correct components on the test machines after the initial install?

    • Are all of the components there that should have been installed?

    • Has the test database been initialized?

    • Have all pretest conditions been identified and addressed?

    • Have all application-specific variables and constants been initialized?

    • Have the necessary application metaentities been created?

    • Have automated tests for all GUI screens been created?

    • Have automated tests for all basic features been created?

    • Has feature-specific test data been constructed?

    • Is unit test data available for use during the smoke test?

  • Is it included in the smoke test data set?

    • Is the installation documentation available?

  • Is it up-to-date for the current build/release?
