Acknowledgments

I want to thank all the people—more than a thousand now—whom I’ve interviewed in the last four years. Thanks also to all those I’ve met along the way in all the companies, associations, and schools where I’ve been so fortunate to speak. I am blessed with so many dear friends and I feel I owe you all my deepest gratitude.

To my cohorts at Rainmaker, Inc., past and present, thank you for joining me in studying our generation’s experience in the workplace, especially Mark Kurber, Heather Boardman, Joe Engwer, Nathaniel Antman, Jeff Katz, Homer Robinson, and Soyong Cho. No thanks would be enough to my comanaging principal here, Jeff Coombs, for Jeff is the kindest, most sincere person I have ever known, a true friend, and my alter ego in this enterprise.

Special thanks go to Soyong Cho, who helped me conceive this project and made valuable contributions to it.

Very special thanks go to Bob Carkhuff at HRD Press who recognized the value of this issue in the training and development market and chose to pursue an ongoing partnership with Rainmaker, Inc. Thank you Bob—it is an honor to work with you.

To my entire family—thank you. And to my wife Debby Applegate, I couldn’t face each day without you, much less write books. I am endlessly grateful to have you as a life partner.
