Chapter 16

Simulation Projects

This final chapter consists of three simulation projects that will illustrate how the physics and methods you've learned in this book can be used for different types of applications. The examples are quite different from one another, reflecting differences not only in the underlying physics but also in the purpose for which they are built.

The three examples are the following:

  • Build a submarine: The aim here is to show how easily you can modify some of the existing code you've already come across to create a submarine that you could incorporate in a 2D game.
  • Build a flight simulator: In this example we'll create a 3D flight simulator that could be further developed in many interesting ways just for pure fun!
  • Create an accurate solar system model: This project is to create an accurate 3D model of the solar system that could be used as an e-learning tool. We will then compare the simulation with data generated from a simulation by NASA.

The idea is that these are your projects, so we give the relevant physics and help you build a basic version, but then leave it to you to develop and enhance them in any ways you might want. Have fun!
