ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Liz Heinecke has loved science since she was old enough to inspect her first butterfly. After working in molecular biology research for ten years and getting her master’s degree, Liz left the lab to kick off a new chapter in her life as a stay-at-home mom. Soon she found herself sharing her love of science with her three kids as they grew, journaling their science adventures on her online educational platform KitchenPantryScientist.com.

Her desire to spread her enthusiasm for science to others soon led to regular TV appearances, speaking engagements, and her books: Kitchen Science Lab for Kids (Quarry Books), Outdoor Science Lab for Kids (Quarry Books), STEAM Lab for Kids (Quarry Books), Star Wars Maker Lab (DK), Kitchen Science Lab for Kids, Edible Edition (Quarry Books), The Kitchen Pantry Scientist: Chemistry for Kids (Quarry Books), and “RADIANT: The Dancer, The Scientist and a Friendship Forged in Light,” an adult nonfiction narrative about Marie Curie and Loie Fuller (Grand Central Publishing).

Most days, you’ll find Liz at home in Minnesota, writing, reading, creating science experiments, singing, playing banjo, gardening, running, and feeding hungry teenagers.

Liz graduated from Luther College with a B.A. in art and received her master’s degree in bacteriology from the University of Wisconsin, Madison.

ABOUT THE PHOTOGRAPHER

Amber Procaccini is a commercial and editorial photographer based in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She specializes in photographing kids, babies, food, and travel, and her passion for photography almost equals her passion for finding the perfect taco.

Amber met Liz while photographing her first book, Kitchen Science Lab for Kids, and she knew they’d make a great team when they bonded over cornichons, pate, and brie. When Amber isn’t photographing eye-rolling tweens or making cheeseburgers look mouthwatering, she and her husband love to travel and enjoy new adventures together.

ABOUT THE ILLUSTRATOR

Kelly Anne Dalton is a professional artist and illustrator living in the wild mountains of Montana. Working from her charming 1920s studio, Kelly Anne loves creating a wide range of work from children’s books to decorative greeting cards and gifts. Growing up with a biologist for a mother, Kelly has had an appreciation for science and nature her entire life and because of that she enjoyed creating the portraits for this book. When not drawing, Kelly Anne can be found trail running in the forest, playing with her dogs, and adventuring with her husband.
