About the author

John Helling received his MLS from Indiana University in 2006, after which he went to work for the New York Public Library. He then became Library Director at the Bloomfield- Eastern Greene County Public Library and a part-time instructor at Indiana University’s School of Library and Information Science, teaching Public Library Management.

In 2011, John was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship to study the national public library policy of Finland. The project explored the implementation of the national policy from conception to execution to identify best practices.

John’s publishing history began with book reviews for Library Journal. He has published scholarly articles and book chapters on topics related to public library management, and written in a freelance capacity for the Indianapolis Star. This is his first book
