This example of a single-level command team may suit ‘information processing’ type organisations. Others involved in more physical activities would almost certainly require other roles to cover those activities.

Coordinating staff communications

Arranging agency, or other interim human resources

ICT

Implementing information and communications technology disaster recovery in accordance with the team’s decision(s)

Advising the team on all ICT matters

Providing and coordinating ongoing additional support for users in interim work situations

Facilities

Managing the immediate response to an incident affecting buildings and facilities

Coordinating the deployment of alternative workplace and operating facilities

Procuring additional medium-term accommodation as required

Planning and co-ordinating return to the premises or new facility projects, as appropriate

Critical activities

Directing and coordinating the resumption of critical or business activities

Managing departmental or divisional staff level communications

Liaising with HR, and other professionals, in ensuring the welfare of staff

External communications

Handling all communications with media, including appointing and directing spokespersons

Developing relevant media and market statements for reactive and proactive release

Advising the team on communications and PR matters

Executing other external communications with relevant bodies and stakeholders, including customers or clients

Compliance and standards

Managing communications with any regulatory bodies

Advising the team on standards-related issues

Finance

Ensuring the organisation’s financial stability is protected

Implementing any necessary emergency measures for paying and receiving money

Providing necessary financial resources for response and recovery activities

Business continuity

Providing advice, support and coordination to the team on execution of the BCP and its related resources

Ensuring the maintenance of appropriate records throughout the activation phase
