Provisioning subscriptions and alerts

Another useful feature of the Reporting Services and SharePoint integration is the ability of the system to handle subscriptions and alerts. This is not really new, because, we have the same features on the SSRS Report Manager. But this is handy since you don't have to configure things like this somewhere else.

Let's configure the SQL Server Agent:

  1. Click on the Provision Subscription and Alerts link from the message we got when we created the service application.
  2. That displays the Provision Subscription and Alerts – SQL Reporting Application dialog box.
  3. Click on Download Script to download the SQL Reporting Application, GrantRights.sql file from your SharePoint server (SP2013 in my case). Save the file in an accessible location.
  4. Log in to your SQL Server 2012 Server, and enable the SQL Server Agent. Execute the script downloaded from the SharePoint server.

Let's set this aside for now. We may not cover the use of subscriptions and alerts in this chapter, but I included this step-by-step nonetheless as a reference.
