Preface

Our story. Putting together a high-performing, strengths-based project team can be easily done—like ours! Take the two authors. One is named Martha. The other is Connie. Martha lives in Minnesota. Connie lives in Oregon. We have never met. Yet, we came together through a mutual connection to write this book—each utilizing and maximizing our unique talents, specific strengths, and areas of expertise. Martha is a Gallup-Certified Strengths Coach through the Gallup organization. Connie is a certified Project Management Professional through the Project Management Institute (PMI®).

Using the CliftonStrengths® talent assessment, our top five talent themes are:

Connie

Martha

Input®

Responsibility®

Maximizer®

Connectedness®

Achiever®

Learner®

Focus®

Belief®

Harmony®

Achiever®

Note that we have one in common—Achiever®. Our Achiever® talents drive us to get things done! We also have different dominant talent themes that we use in our strengths-based complementary partnership! And so this book came to life.

Our thanks. A special thank you to our mutual friend and professional colleague, Tim Kloppenborg, who had the wisdom and foresight to put us together as complementary partners to write this book. His passion for combining project management and strengths development has been our inspiration for “Developing Strengths-Based Project Teams.” We greatly appreciate and value Tim’s endless support, answering countless of questions, and being our champion for this endeavor. Without you, Tim, this book would not have happened!
