Acknowledgments

This book was inspired by the change makers, those who harness the power of organizations and management principles to make the world a better place for all humanity. It is not only a celebration of their efforts but also a guide for the next generation to follow in their footsteps and achieve even greater things.

To produce a book like this truly takes a village. Although I cannot properly acknowledge the dozens of people who contributed to this effort, I wanted to highlight a few. First, many thanks to Bernadette Clavier, my partner at Stanford’s Center for Social Innovation, who provided tremendous support and encouragement throughout the writing process. I thank my colleague Jennifer Aaker for her helpful advice and guidance during the conceptualization phase of this project. I am grateful to all the authors, from whom I learned a great deal about the exciting field of social innovation. I greatly appreciate the heroic efforts of Russ Siegelman, who took the time to provide cogent feedback on all the chapters. I am also grateful to my colleagues who attended the conference to work on this book, including Anat Admati, Paul Pfleiderer, and Ken Shotts. In particular, Paul did amazing work in helping to develop Bill Meehan’s chapter. Finally, Liz Peintner did a terrific job in leading the effort to put together the glossary.

Scott Berinato was a fantastic editor, providing not only helpful feedback on the chapters but also being a tireless advocate for this endeavor. I appreciate his pushing us to balance rigor, relevance, and clarity.
