32. What Do You Think of Flow?

Concept

What do you think of flow? Does it come and go like the breeze? Is it manageable? Could you manage the frequency with which you experience flow? Could you live in a way to ramp up the percentage of time in life that you are in flow?

Or is flow something that just happens from time to time?

Could one design flow into one’s life?

What if flow was something you could take with you wherever you went?

Imagine how your life would change if you could raise the probability of being in flow on any given day or week.

Example

A teenage girl sat down to practice the piano. She immersed herself in her session. She didn’t notice that the family dog came in to lie beside her. She didn’t notice when her siblings came in to listen. She didn’t notice when her mom came in. She didn’t notice when her father came in and sat down by the rest of them. When she finished her session, she looked up and said, “Whoa! Where did you all come from?” (true story)

Did this “just happen?”
