Graduations & ladders

And that's it! You've just graduated as an investor in training, with your own investing portfolio built out of tried‐and‐tested strategies and research‐backed knowledge.

A common theme among investors in training is that, when they start to understand these concepts and feel ready to begin investing, they feel a ping of regret and sadness that they weren't taught this sooner.

But I believe it's unfair to be so harsh on our past selves, especially given the history women and minorities have had with investing. Not all of us had the privilege of generational wealth. However, we can now be the change makers in our families and set ourselves and our future generations up for success.

Investing isn't as difficult as it's made out to be, and I hope through this book you've been able to realise, chapter by chapter, how simple most of these concepts are when they're not doused in complicated terminology. Investing can and should be for everyone, but especially for those of us who have been left out of the conversation for too long.

Before I leave you, I want to ask one favour. A promise my father asked me to make; I am now asking you.

Investing isn't just a sole‐person activity. We invest for our communities and our families. Growing wealth doesn't just benefit us; it benefits our society as a whole. When we uplift ourselves we inspire our friends, our siblings, our nieces and nephews and even those we never thought we would. We inspire future generations by being the role models they deserve.

The information in this book isn't just to benefit you, but to help those around you as well. Like my father told me, when you reach those financial goals you are after — because you will — do not forget to look back at how far you have come and make sure you help others climb up the ladder too.

There is enough space for us all.
