You made it through the nitty-gritty of the who, what, and where of remote jobs. Now it's time to get down to the basics.

I've written this workshop for those of you who are ready to take action and move to the next stage.

Before we get rolling, here's my first question: Working from home sounds like a dream job, but are you hardwired for working independently?

Some people thrive when they're surrounded by a cadre of office mates. They hate not having easy contact with a manager to encourage and lead them. For those of you who worry that could be you, the following chapters will help you do the introspection to suss that out before you step into a work environment that isn't a good fit.

For those of you who thrive on autonomy, are self-disciplined, and are energized by having a more flexible work schedule, these next chapters will get you on your way. You will fire up your job-hunting skills and discover strategies to prepare and succeed as a remote worker—both professionally and personally.

My expectation is that you will use my specific suggestions to learn new ways to job-hunt that will allow you to make smart decisions about the type of work you decide to do, where you want to do it, and how to make it “work” for you. Whether you want to work part time or a full schedule, on contract or seasonally, working remotely might just be the best work scenario you've ever had. My hope is that you'll land a position to do work you love in a setting where you can be productive, make your best effort, and, importantly, that allows you to lead a balanced life.
