Our first graph/chart under the microscope is the most popular and simplest one to create. We can classify them all roughly under Cartesian-based graphs. Altogether this graph style is relatively simple; it opens the door to creating amazingly creative ways of exploring data. In this chapter we will lay down the foundations to building charts in general and hopefully motivate you to come up with your own ideas on how to create engaging data visualizations.
