In addition to J2EE technologies, WebLogic Server provides several important APIs and extensions to J2EE APIs that help provide reliable, scalable performance for a distributed application. The WebLogic Server clustering technology permits interconnection of several WebLogic Server instances (one per CPU) on a LAN, so that the WebLogic Servers in a cluster can distribute workload and provide fault-tolerance as application demands increase.
Scenarios for distributed deployment are discussed in Chapter 13. Chapter 14 describes the mechanics of packaging, building, and deploying a moderately complex sample application called WebAuction.
