Family Day Kite Festival

Sept. 20–21, San Francisco, Calif.

Sept. 28–Oct. 5, Washington, D.C.

» Space Shuttle Atlantis Launch

Oct. 8, Cape Canaveral, Fla.

Seven astronauts fly into space for the fifth and final servicing mission to the Hubble Space Telescope. The crew will maintain the observatory through 2013. kennedyspacecenter.com

Oct. 16–19, Rosemont, Ill.
