Obtaining and Installing the samp_db Sample Database Distribution

The filesused to set up and access the samp_db sample database are available at thefollowing address:

http://www.mysql.com/Contrib/Examples/

Retrieve the distribution file samp_db.tar.gz, move into the directory under which you want to install it, and unpack it using one of these commands:

% tar zxf samp_db.tar.gz
% gunzip < samp_db.tar.gz | tar xf -
					

When youunpack the distribution, it will create a directory named samp_db containing several items:

• Files for creating and loading the samp_db database. These are used in Chapter 1, "Introduction to MySQL and SQL."

• The C programs from Chapter 6, "The MySQL C API."

• The Perl DBI scripts and the samp_db.cnf option file from Chapter 7, "The Perl DBI API."

• The PHP scripts and the samp_db.inc include file from Chapter 8, "The PHP API."

The samp_db directory contains a README file that you should consult for instructions on using the distribution files.
