Happy Birthday!
Birthdays only come once a year, which is definitely not often enough. That’s probably why we take so many pictures when we celebrate with all the special people who come together: uncles, aunts, friends, and neighbors. People are in good spirits at birthday parties, there are lots of presents—maybe even a new camera—and there are many chances for fun pictures. Of course, no picture is more important than that of the birthday girl or boy.
If it’s your own birthday, look at the section titled “Self-Portraits” (page 122) for tips on taking pictures of yourself. You can also photograph your guests as they greet you at the door with presents. The highlight of the party is blowing out candles on the birthday cake, but don’t forget to capture the table piled high with gifts and the fun and games in the backyard.
When you’re invited to a birthday party, you can give your pictures from that day as a gift. Make an IOU that says: “This coupon is good for a photo album with the pictures that I take today at your birthday party.” Pictures are always a great gift idea. If you need a gift for your mom or dad, take a self-portrait, have a copy printed, and find a frame that fits. You’re all ready!
