Part 5
Nuts and Bolts of Opening and Running the Store
Once you’ve designed your store and bought your inventory, you then need to market it, find the right people to staff it, choose the right technology to operate it, and with these tools in place, decide how you will provide customer service to go that extra mile. As a retailer, you’ll need to be able to negotiate with almost everyone that you come in contact with every day—suppliers, customers, employees, your bank, and your landlord. You’ll also need to be able to keep the books, so you can track how well you are doing. In this part, I review the basic skills you need to open and run a store on a day-to-day basis.
