Part B Overview

Part A explored a framework for building innovation GAMEs. Now it’s time to color the specifics.

Design activities likely to catalyze breakthrough invention.

Each challenge is different, and many tools are available. Part B unveils a range of approaches I integrate into my own GAMEs and recommend to clients. As with earlier chapters, contextualized scenarios demonstrate principles in action. To illustrate how they might play out, potential solutions are often presented.

Chapter 5

IMPROVE YOUR VISION with the five lenses of innovation. GAMEs and teams should align thinking modes during each step of the process.

Chapter 6

Puzzlers must become master detectives. Using the GREEN/GATHER lens, hunt for clues, LEARN about crucial aspects (Logistics, Emotions, Assumptions, Resources, Narrative), and interpret valuable data.

Chapter 7

Innovation requires imagination. Using the PURPLE/PROPOSE lens, remember seven brainstorming rules, apply these 10 creative catalysts, and prototype your vision.

Chapter 8

Both BLUE/BOOST (positive) and RED/RIP(negative) feedback are critical for innovation. Weighing the psychological implications of these lenses, this chapter offers six critiquing techniques.

Chapter 9

Puzzlers switch on the ORANGE/OWN lens when making decisions. After considering why it’s so difficult to choose, this chapter introduces nine techniques for committing to one direction at the expense of many others.
