CHAPTER 7: CONCLUSION

The role of information technology is to enable the creation and protection of value for an organization. As such, IT needs to help enable the green strategy of the firm by not only addressing its energy consumption but also by providing technical solutions to other functional areas so they can achieve their objectives.

Due to risks relating to escalating costs, environmental concerns, and regulation, initiatives to curb energy consumption should be a priority for many firms – especially those with data centers.

To facilitate this, boards need to be involved at the organizational goal and risk levels. Management should then design and implement the necessary policies and processes to support and protect the goals of the organization – including the design and execution of a green strategy. At the IT level, a properly designed and implemented Green IT process can help IT ensure that their mandate of value creation and protection on behalf of the organization is achieved.
