In Gratitude—Gracias

G RACIAS FOR READING THIS book. You honor me, my ancestors, and the thousands of Latinos who are uplifting our community and country every day. Gracias to those who laid the foundation for the incredible forms of leadership that have allowed Latinos to emerge. Gracias to the many people who embrace de colores—the magnificent splendor of our diversity. Most of all, thank you to the young leaders who will come after us. They will realize Latino destino and create a caring and inclusive society. They will realize the power of latino leadership.

Gratitude is a cherished Latino trait. Thank you to the many, many gente (people) who have helped and guided me in my leadership journey, especially mi familia. A special gracias to my talented and dedicated amigos for reading and making suggestions on the second edition. Their insights, leadership experience, and contributions have enriched these words. A special acknowledgment to Lynette Murphy and Sylvia Puente for their brilliant contributions. To my grandson, Ishmael Harris, gracias for your insights on how young people lead. And to Dr. Linda Olen, whose wisdom and experience helped shape the reflection and application sections.
