Sketch a tree that you’ve seen many times but never looked at closely. - 2.Sketch a scene with foliage without using green: mix your greens with yellows, blues, and other colors.

- 5.Sketch a scene at three different times of day—early morning, midday, and late afternoon. What do you notice?
- 6.Make a study drawing of a single flower or leaf. Look carefully at the shape and structure.
- 7.Sketch a close-up view of the base of a tree. How does it grow out of the ground?

- 16.Sketch nature as the “view between,” such as a garden patch between two buildings.
- 17.Paint clouds at the same time of day every day for a week.
- 18.Try using a medium you have never used before.
- 19.Create your entire sketch using only a wet-on-wet technique.
- 20.Sketch a view using simplified geometric shapes.
- 21.Save the white of the page to paint clouds, water, or snow.
- 22.Paint flowers close up using the negative painting techniques.
- 23.Try four different black-and-white Notan sketches to investigate your composition.
- 24.On a sunny day, look for trees or other foliage with strong cast shadows. Draw or paint the patterns of light and shadow.
