CHRISTOPHER M. BARNES is a professor of organizational behavior at the University of Washington’s Foster School of Business. He worked in the Fatigue Countermeasures branch of the Air Force Research Laboratory before pursuing his PhD in organizational behavior at Michigan State University and has kept sleep as his primary research interest. He has twin toddlers and a preschooler and thus understands sleep deprivation from an experiential perspective as well.

ED BATISTA is an executive coach and lecturer at the Stanford Graduate School of Business. He writes regularly on issues related to coaching and professional development at edbatista.com. And he tweets about living on a farm and his dog Buster @edbatista.

RUSSELL CLAYTON is a faculty member in the Muma College of Business at the University of South Florida. He also serves as a well-being coach for employees who seek to have fruitful professional and personal lives. JOHN COLEMAN is a business executive and the author of The HBR Guide to Crafting Your Purpose (Harvard Business Review Press, 2021). Jackie and John Coleman are married and have four young children.

STEWART D. FRIEDMAN, an organizational psychologist at the Wharton School, is the author of three Harvard Business Review Press books—Parents Who Lead (2020), Leading the Life You Want (2014), and Total Leader ship (2008). He founded the Wharton Leadership Program, the Wharton Work/Life Integration Project, and Total Leadership, a management consulting and training company. His three grown children work in education. He hopes his three grandchildren will help us heal our broken world.

AMIE M. GORDON is an assistant professor of psychology at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, where she directs the Well-being, Health, and Interpersonal Relationships Lab (WHIRL). She received her PhD in social-personality psychology from the University of California, Berkeley. As a working mother who functions best on nine hours of sleep, much of her research on sleep and its effects on relationships has been inspired by her own nights of sleep deprivation and that desire to get one more thing done before she goes to bed.

REBECCA KNIGHT is a freelance journalist in Boston whose work has been published in the New York Times, USA Today, and the Financial Times. She is the mom of two tweenage daughters.

DANIELLE LINDEMANN is a sociologist at Lehigh University and the author of Commuter Spouses. She has two daughters and is an expert at turning tiny clothes right side out.

JENNIFER PETRIGLIERI is an associate professor of organizational behavior at INSEAD and the author of Couples That Work (Harvard Business Review Press, 2019). She is the mum of Pietro (11) and Arianna (10), and together they enjoy growing vegetables, jumping on their trampoline, and going for long bike rides.

ERIN REID is an associate professor of human resources and management at McMaster University’s DeGroote School of Business and holds a PhD in organizational behavior and sociology from Harvard University. Her three children, who are in daycare, elementary school, and middle school, keep her busy with soccer practices, Lego cleanup, and ice cream dates.

DEBORAH GRAYSON RIEGEL is a leadership consultant, keynote speaker, and an executive coach. She has taught for Wharton Business School, Columbia Business School, and Duke Corporate Education. She is the author of Overcoming Overthinking. Her husband Michael is also an executive coach, and their college-age twins, Jake and Sophie, catch their parents trying to coach them all the time.
