Monitoring and Killing Backup Jobs

To Obtain Status

1.
Log in to the master Netbackup server as the system administrator.

Run this command:

# /usr/openv/netbackup/bin/xnb -d
								display
								&
							

A GUI with the following buttons is displayed:

Click the Activity Monitor button.

A list of job activities appears:

This list shows completed jobs, queued jobs, and active jobs.

For completed jobs, a status value of 0 indicates the job completed successfully. Any other status value needs to be investigated as it indicates job failure.

To sort the Activity Window different ways, select the View menu.

Several options are available for displaying and categorizing jobs:

  • Columns: Displays dialog box that enables rearranging of column display.

  • Filter: Displays dialog box that enables criteria of jobs displayed to be modified.

  • Sort: Displays the sort window:

    Moving the sliders changes priorities for the display. For example, moving Class to 1 automatically reorders the other sort criteria. Moving Class back to 5 resets it back. The display can be set to ascending or descending order.

To obtain additional information about any job in the list, double click a job in the Activity Monitor window.

Detailed job status information is now displayed:

Information displayed includes: job status, (in this case the job is active), time job was started, and length of time job has been running. A progress bar displays the percentage of estimated completion, along with the name of the file currently being backed up. This information is not displayed in real time; a new file name is displayed after each block of 500 files has been backed up. Information about number of bytes, and files backed up is also updated similarly.

Killing Jobs

1.
Log in to the master Netbackup server as the system administrator.

2.
Run this command:

# /usr/openv/netbackup/bin/xnb -d
								display
								&
							

A GUI with the following buttons is displayed:

Click the Activity Monitor button.

A list of job activities is displayed:

To kill all jobs, click the File menu and select Kill All Backups:

Note

This may take a few moments to execute and update the Status Window.

5.
To kill an individual job, double click the job in the Activity Monitor.

Detailed job status information is displayed:

Click the File menu and select Kill.

It may take a few moments to kill the job and update the Activity Monitor window.
