Some of Oslo’s most interesting attractions and stunning green spaces are a short distance outside the city centre. In the west, Vigelandsparken comprises numerous expressive sculptures and is one of Oslo’s most-visited attractions. To the east, trendy neighbourhoods Vulkan and Grünerløkka sandwich the Akerselva River with their ultra-creative communities, stylish restaurants and buzzy nightlife. The river and the area surrounding it is Oslo’s green lung and provides opportunities for swimming, strolling and café-hopping. To the north, you’ll meet marka, or the Oslo forest, where passing elk might be spotted.
