PROGRAM PARTICIPANT QUESTIONNAIRE

The following interview questions were asked of thirty-two Center for Creative Leadership program participants. The questions were developed to ascertain participants' current leadership roles, their visions for themselves, their values, and aspects of their personal lives. The purpose of these interviews was to learn what these leaders thought about how leadership fit into their lives and careers.

  1. You have learned a lot about yourself this week—as a person and as a leader. Describe how you see leadership fitting into your life.
  2. What is your philosophy of leadership?
  3. How would you describe your current leadership role?
  4. Was your pursuit of a leadership role a conscious decision?
  5. Do you have a vision for yourself as a leader?
  6. Describe how you have made some decisions about your career.
  7. What kind of impact do you hope to make with your leadership? Why?
  8. Describe an experience or event in which your leadership made a difference.
  9. Describe a leadership experience in which your values were most prominent.
  10. Describe a leadership experience in which you experienced a values conflict.
  11. What are the rewards of leading?
  12. What are the risks of leading?
  13. What costs or sacrifices do you incur from being in a leadership role?
  14. Do you see yourself in a leadership role outside work? How does this benefit you at work?
  15. How does your organizational leadership role positively influence the other areas of your life?
  16. How does your organizational leadership role detract from the other areas of your life?
  17. Are there any specific lessons you want to pursue? How will a leadership role help you do that?
  18. What kind of leadership opportunity do you see yourself pursuing in the future?
