After reading this chapter you will learn about:
Oracle 9iAS integrates many technologies required to build and deliver an e-business Web site. The emphasis of this chapter will be to explain how Oracle 9iAS generates dynamic Web content from PL/SQL procedures. We also review the required steps to install and configure 9iAS in order to run these applications. And while Oracle 9iAS has many components, only the core modules of Oracle 9iAS are discussed here.
Oracle 9iAS provides the middleware component of the Oracle Internet Platform and delivers and manages applications and data requested by client browsers. The two other components of the Oracle Internet Platform are the Oracle9i Database and the Oracle Internet Developer Suite. The Internet Developer Suite contains Oracle Tools to build applications, such as Developer, Designer, Oracle Warehouse Builder, and Discoverer. The Application Server is supplied in four versions: Core, Minimal, Standard, and Enterprise. We look at these in more detail later on in the chapter. 3
