Using LinkedIn Mobile

LinkedIn Mobile enables you to view selected LinkedIn data and perform selected LinkedIn tasks on your mobile phone. If you use a BlackBerry, iPhone, or Palm, you should also consider the LinkedIn application specific to your phone.

To learn more about LinkedIn Mobile options, click the Mobile link on the bottom navigation menu.

Accessing LinkedIn on Your Mobile Phone

With LinkedIn Mobile, you can access LinkedIn on any mobile phone with Internet access.

To access LinkedIn on your mobile phone, follow these steps:

1. Point to http://m.linkedin.com.
2. Enter your email address and LinkedIn password.
3. Click the Sign In button.
4. Choose from the following options:

   • 0 Search: Search by keywords, name, company, or title.

   • 1 Updates: Update your status or view network updates of your connections.

   • 2 Contacts: View summaries of your connections with links to their profiles and email.

   • 3 Profile: View your profile.

   • 4 Invite: Invite people to connect with you on LinkedIn.

   • 5 Settings: Select your preferred language. Choices include English, German, Spanish, French, Japanese, or Chinese (either traditional or simplified).

   • 6 Feedback: Provide feedback to LinkedIn.

   • 7 Sign Out: Sign out of LinkedIn.

Figure 15.1 shows a sample profile using LinkedIn Mobile. The way LinkedIn Mobile appears on your phone varies by manufacturer.

Using the LinkedIn iPhone Application

LinkedIn offers a free application for the iPhone that’s compatible with the iPod Touch and iPad and integrates with your iPhone address book. This application requires iPhone OS 3.0 or later. It’s available in English, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese, and Spanish.

Figure 15.2 shows network updates on the iPhone.

To download this application, click the Mobile link on the bottom navigation menu, and then click the iPhone link on the LinkedIn Mobile page. Alternatively, search the App Store in iTunes.

Using LinkedIn on Your BlackBerry

LinkedIn for BlackBerry enables you to work with your BlackBerry contacts, calendar, and messaging. This application is available for Tour, Bold, Curve, Storm, and Pearl using OS 4.3.0 or higher.

To download LinkedIn for BlackBerry, follow these steps:

1. On the bottom navigation menu, click the Mobile link.
2. On the LinkedIn Mobile page, click the BlackBerry link.
3. Click the Get It Now button.
4. Enter your email address and click the Send Email button to email a download link to your phone. Alternatively, type the following link on your BlackBerry: http://m.linkedin.com/blackberry/download.

Using LinkedIn on Your Palm

If you own a Palm Pre or Palm Pixi, you can download the free LinkedIn application in the Palm application catalog. This app enables you to search and view profiles, send email to your connections, send invitations to connect, and view and accept outstanding invitations.

To download, click the Mobile link on the bottom navigation menu and then click the Palm link on the LinkedIn Mobile page.
