A NOTE ON SOURCES

This book draws on a research base of hundreds of documents, the vast majority of which came from inside our company. Sources consulted include:

INTERVIEWS

My research team and I interviewed dozens of current and former Kronites, some individually and others in small focus groups of 8 to 10 people. For added texture, we interviewed Kronos founder Mark Ain and other members of my family, as well as several current and former Kronos executives. We solicited further thoughts, insights, and data from interviewees and their teams via e-mails, and we also followed up with interviewees to fact-check stories as we represented them in the book. In a small number of cases, we performed interviews in written form via e-mail.

KRONOS REPORTS AND PRESENTATIONS

To collect Kronos data and insights, we drew upon a number of formal presentations and reports from various departments at Kronos, including marketing, human resources, finance, and so on.

KRONOS EMPLOYEE COMMUNICATIONS

We consulted hundreds of communications sent out by my executive team over the past decade, including our quarterly financial reports, my aron@work videos, personal e-mails from me and other executives to Kronites, our official Kronos cartoons, videos of presentations I’ve given at company events, and so on.

CONTEST SUBMISSIONS

As part of our research efforts, we consulted several of the lengthy submissions our corporate communications team prepares every year in order to be considered for external workplace honors and recognition.

SOCIAL MEDIA/E-MAIL

Our research team reviewed hundreds of Kronite postings on our internal collaboration site, as well as hundreds of e-mails I personally received and sent to Kronites around the world. We also collected comments from anonymous employees and former employees from LinkedIn, Glassdoor, and other external social media sites.
